A Location of Interest might be a museum preserving local history, a historic downtown experiencing a revival, a scenic natural attraction, a cultural landmark, a railroad heritage site or another destination that gives travelers a reason to stop and explore.
By highlighting individual places, the Association demonstrates that traveling US Route 6 is not simply about getting from one destination to another.
The places between those destinations are part of the adventure.
Promoting Communities Along US Route 6
The Location of Interest feature also provides an important way to promote the communities connected by US Route 6.
When travelers learn about an interesting museum, historic site or attraction, they may also discover nearby restaurants, shops, lodging, parks and other local destinations.
A traveler who originally planned to drive through a community may decide to stop for lunch, visit an attraction, walk through downtown or stay overnight.
That additional visitor activity can help support local businesses and tourism organizations while introducing travelers to places they may not have encountered through traditional travel advertising.
